In 2021, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR initiated the Phased Revitalization & Restoration Plan for Lai Chi Wan Shipyard. While retaining the original look of the fishing village and shipyard, the area was revamped into a fishing-village-culture-themed leisure and cultural venue, incorporating trendy elements and a lively vibe to become a unique cultural landmark in Macao’s outlying islands.
No longer a dull, empty factory space—vibrant, cleverly engineered rope net systems weave through the area, serving as climbing nets, crawl tunnels, slides and sky walks to form a stacked 3D maze. Kids can run, climb, slide and jump to their hearts’ content; every twist reveals a new surprise, every climb offers a fresh perspective. The rope netting’s natural flexibility and durability ensure safety while boosting children’s motor skills and adventurous spirit.
The upgraded Lai Chi Wan Shipyard Area boasts an 80-capacity performance space and age-appropriate kids' facilities, such as shipbuilding knowledge games and a 60m-long aerial rope net park. The revamped history exhibition hall uses digital tech to vividly showcase Macao's traditional shipbuilding history. Outdoor camping seats by the coast let visitors enjoy the nearby natural landforms and ecology up close.
